Biographical note

John Charles Bollens was born in Detroit (Michigan) on May 20, 1928. Bollens was a conscientious objector and did alternative service in a Detroit public hospital. He graduated with a B.A. from Heidelberg College (Tiffin, Ohio) and with a B.D. from Eden Theological Seminary (Webster Groves, Missouri). Bollens was ordained as a United Church of Christ minister, but eventually left the ministry. He also worked actively in the peace movement from ca. 1957-1971. John Bollens was director of AFSC’s Peace Education program in the Midwest and in New England from 1957-1964. He was a senior staff member of Center for War/Peace Studies (later called Center for Global Perspectives) from 1964-1967, then became Executive Director of the Midwest Chapter of the World Without War Council from 1967-1971, and Died on February 1, 2009.
