Biographical / Historical
Delaware County Campaign for Peace in the Middle East; based in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania; formed around August 1990 to respond to the buildup to the Persian Gulf War, also known as Operation Desert Storm (August 2, 1990-February 28, 1991); upon cessation of military operations, the Campaign re-formed to address issues concerning Israel and Palestine and the environment; principals included Myron Arnowitt, Robin Lasersohn, Terry Rumsey and Bob Smith; the Campaign was endorsed by the Brandywine Peace Community, Delaware County Jobs With Peace, 20/20 Vision, Delaware County Pledge of Resistance, Delaware County Sane/Freeze, Lansdowne Friends Meeting, Media Friends Meeting, Sisters of St. Francis, Providence Friends Meeting, Chester Quarterly Friends Meeting, Veterans for Peace, and the Swarthmore-Delco branch of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom; the Campaign formulated responses to war, and promoted peace walks and vigils, discussions, and protest actions.
