Biographical / Historical
This collection reflects the philosophy and programs of the National Council of the Young Men's Christian Associations of the United States of America, later called the YMCA of the USA, during wartime and postwar periods, 1917-1951. One of the services it provided during the second World War was to meet the needs of men away from home in Civilian Public Service. The educational aspects of the YMCA included forums for discussing the Christian response in wartime. The organization did not advocate either pacifism or conscientious objection.
