Biographical / Historical
Joseph C Osborn (he preferred not to use a period after his middle initial); born 1911; member of the Society of Friends (Quakers); conscientious objector to World War II; performed alternate service as a smokejumper in Civilian Public Service Camp 103 (near Missoula, Montana); later, Osborn was a professor of mechanical engineering at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; died 1993.
