Biographical / Historical

Caroline Foulke Urie had been a resident of Jane Addams' Hull House, where she introduced the Montessori kindergarten method into the United States. She was a Quaker, a member of the Fellowship of Reconciliation,the War Resisters League, the Socialist Party, and the Peacemakers. She died in 1955, having lived in Yellow Springs, Ohio, in later life.
