Biographical / Historical
The name World Peace Union has been used by American organizations as early as the late 1920s in California, and later in 1946-1948 in Chicago. No clear connection can be ascertained among the several organizations. The Chicago World Peace Union was founded by Frederick Oliver Haines, who also designed the World Peace Flag in 1935. Internationally, the World Peace Union in Geneva, Switzerland was another name for the Theosophical Order of Service, an international society for promotion of World Brotherhood founded by Annie Besant (c. 1920).
