Biographical / Historical
Friends Service Council; FSC; formed in 1927 from a merger of the Friends Foreign Mission Association and the Council for International Service; FSC was the standing committee responsible for the overseas work of the Religious Society of Friends in Great Britain (London Yearly Meeting) and in Ireland (Ireland Yearly Meeting, formerly Dublin Yearly Meeting). In 1947, the Friends Service Council shared the Nobel Peace Prize with its American counterpart, the American Friends Service Committee; FSC later changed its name to Quaker Peace and Service, and then to Quaker Peace & Social Witness (QPSW).
