Biographical / Historical
New Zealand Christian Pacifist Society; NZCPS; founded in March 1936 as the Christian Pacifist Society (CPS) of New Zealand by a Methodist minister, Ormund Burton, and his associate, A.C. Barrington; absolute pacifist group, supported conscientious objectors to war and opposed military training in schools; in later years, the CPS began to refer to itself more frequently as the New Zealand Christian Pacifist Society, but the two names continued to be used interchangeably; ceased around 2002.
