Biographical / Historical
Phyllis B. Taylor and Richard K. Taylor are co-founders of Witness for Peace, an organization that seeks to support peace and justice in Latin America and the Caribbean.Together, they have won numerous awards recognizing their dedication to human rights and their service in their faith communities. Phyllis is trained as a nurse, and has used her background to support and advocate for the poor, the aging, those addicted to drugs and alcohol, and other neglected or oppressed communities. She has served as an Auxiliary Chaplain at the Philadelphia Prison System, specializing in grief and bereavement and counseling terminally ill men and women -- often as a foreruner in this field. Phyllis identified herself as being Jewish. With a background in sociology/anthropology, theology, and social work, Richard has authored many books, articles, and training manuals, and he has been heavily involved with organizations fighting for justice and peace. Richard was a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) when he also joined the Catholic Church. He became involved in issues related to Catholic women in ministry and other topics, and has been very active with the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Philadelphia.
