Grace Tower Warren photograph albums and diary as New York Yearly Meeting Secretary
Scope and Contents
Two photograph albums created by Grace T. Warren were transferred from New York Yearly Meeting in 1997. The first is a photo album of meeting houses within the Yearly Meeting. "A Book of New York Meetings," 1923-1926, also titled "Know Your Yearly Meeting." Most of the images are contemporary. The second album is untitled, but covers the years during which Grace Tower Warren served as Secretary. Well labeled snapshots cover the Young Friends Eastern Conference held at Westtown, 1923; visits to meeting houses and historic sites in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic; Friends General Conference, Ocean City, NJ., in 1924; Young Friends Conference, Earlham College, 1925; Genesee Yearly Meeting; visiting Friends from England and other travels made in her job capacity. Some of the photographs are identified as being taken by E. P. Sturge, who later became her husband.
Also stored with the photograph albums is a diary/commonplace book kept by Warren 1924-1926 which includes calendar notes and inspirational writings she collected. Among the loose papers included are mimeographed letter explaining her duties as Secretary to the Representative Committee; a letter from Louise K. Clement, Friends Mission in Tokyo, introducing a Miss Ono; and a letter from E. Mabel Trafford in response to an article Warren had written for Friends Intelligencer.
