American Friends Service Committee lantern slides of World War I relief work
Scope and Contents
This collection contains nearly 1000 lantern slides pertaining to AFSC relief efforts in a variety of European countries in the WWI period. They depict rebuilding efforts, war damage, orphanages, hospitals, other projects, and individuals. There is a large amount of duplication, particularly amongst the France slides. There are several sets of slides of France, and they include some variation but there is significant overlap.

English and American Quakers were involved in relief efforts in Europe during and after WWI. These efforts were begun by English Quakers of London Yearly Meeting, and later joined by the American Friends Service Committee. They expanded the scope of their aid from France to also include Russia, Serbia, Poland, Austria, and Germany. The lantern slides of this collection were taken during these relief efforts and, along with lecture notes, sent back home to Friends groups who would use the slides in presentations, usually for fundraising purposes.

Arrangement
This collection is in the order as received. Each PA number represents a slide deck used by the AFSC about the relief work in a particular country. There are several slide decks for France. There is duplication and variation amongst the France sets.
