Biographical / Historical

Edwin Comly Tyson, an Adams County, Pennsylvania, fruit grower and supplier, was a long-time and active member of Menallen Monthly Meeting, serving as treasurer and trustee. He was descended from Krefeld immigrants Reynier Tyson and Margaret Streipers. Edwin Comly Tyson (1864-1945) was the son of Charles John Tyson and Maria Edith Griest, and he married Mary Willis Hawxhurst (1862-1941) in 1887. His grandparents were E. Comly Tyson and Susan Griffith Tyson. E. Comly Tyson was the son of John Tyson and Sarah Comly Tyson.

Custodial History

The research papers were bequeathed to Menallen Monthly Meeting at Tyson's death in 1945. Most recently they were stored at the home of member.

Photocopies of original records deposited in Friends Historical Library were returned to the donor for Meeting reference.

Processing Information

Received as (18) folio-bound volumes of research correspondence, family trees, and some Meeting correspondence assembled by Edwin C. Tyson before his death in 1945. The papers also included loose photocopies of original records and a bound volume of manuscript abstracts. The papers were removed from their non-archival binders and plastic sleeves and stored in acid-free folders in original order. The photocopies of records deposited in Friends Historical Library and abstracts were returned to Menallen Monthly Meeting for their use.
