Biographical / Historical
Henry J. Cadbury was a Quaker historian, educator, and bible scholar. Born into a Quaker family in Philadelphia in 1883, Henry Cadbury was a founder and active member of the American Friends Service Committee, serving as its Chairman from 1928-34 and 1944-60. He taught at Haverford College (1910-18), Bryn Mawr College (1926-34), and was Hollis Professor of Divinity at Harvard (1934-54). Thoughout his career Henry Cadbury lectured and wrote on peace issues. He was devoted to his studies of Quaker history and the New Testament.
