Biographical / Historical
Amelia Alderson Opie was was an English poet and novelist, and a convinced Quaker. She was the daughter of James and Amelia Anderson, born in 1769. In 1798 she married John Opie. After his death she was accepted into the Society of Friends, influenced by her good friend J.J. Gurney. Among her works are Father and Daughter and several volumes of poetry. She died in 1853.
