Charles Edgar Roake family papers
Abstract
This collection includes photostatic copies of the birth certificate of Joseph Roake, and of other members of the Roake family. Also included is a photostatic copy of the journal of Joseph Roake. These materials appear in Charles Edgar Roake's book, The Journal of Joseph Roake, published in 1954.

Biographical / Historical
Charles Edgar Roake was born in 1885, the son of John and Susan (Hart) Roake. He was an instructor of chemistry at Syracuse University. His great-grandfather, Joseph Roake, was an English Quaker. Born in 1739, he was the son of Joseph and Sarah Roake. He married Mary Coleridge, a non-Quaker. Together they moved to Westchester County in New York State. Joseph Roake died in 1829.
