Overview
The SOA Watch was founded in 1990 by Catholic peace activist, Father Roy Bourgeois. The organization tracks and monitors the work of the School of the Americas (SOA), renamed the "Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation," (WHISC), in 2001. The WHISC is a combat training school for Latin American military personnel, located at Fort Benning, Georgia. The SOA Watch is a direct action protest organization.

Scope and Contents
Ellen Star Brinton, the first Curator of the Swarthmore College Peace Collection (1935-1951), established the Subject File as a way to organize miscellaneous material. There are two subject file collections: Subject File #1 refers to material, apoproximately 1952-current, collected since Brinton's time as curator, or material from Subject File #2 which has been incorporated into Subject File #1.
