Overview Turn Toward Peace was founded in 1961 as a cooperative national effort of about 60 peace and liberal internationalist organizations; Norman Thomas was Chairman of TTP, and Robert Gilmore was the Executive Director. There eventually were offices in several large cities and 38 national organizations were affiliated with the organization. Abstract

Turn Toward Peace attempted to coordinate the efforts of peace organizations for more effective action in the 1960s. World Without War Council was chosen as the group's new name in 1967 to help clarify that it was a council made up of iany organizations set up to work for long-term change.
