Abstract

Collection consists of correspondence between the two brothers and their letters to their parents and to Frank's wife, Christine; topics include war, peace, patriotism, daily life in the army and Civilian Public Service, and arguments about the use of military force and pacifist nonviolence in the face of Nazi Germany and expansionist Japan; Frank's letters from the Philippines offer descriptions of life there, and the challenges of wartime marriages and parenthood.

Abstract Anne Jackson Perkins was born May 10, 1925, and died June 7, 2010. She attended Swarthmore High School, and later Guilford College and the University of Delaware, though she did not complete her bachelor’s degree. She worked as a librarian at Swarthmore College’s McCabe Library until she retired in 1988, and lived with her mother and sister until the ends of their lives. She never married, and her diaries often talk about romance, loneliness, mental and physical illness, dislike of family...
