Overview

Howard Haines’s autograph book contains five categories: Faculty, Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman. Each entry includes basic information on members of these categories, except in the case of the faculty, which was left almost entirely blank. His composition book contains several essays concerning animals, historical and contemporary figures, national histories, and notes on several scientific and mathematical subjects.

Theodore Hetzel (1906-1990) was a Quaker professor of engineering at Haverford College in Haverford, Pennsylvania, whose interests led him to involvement with Native American and Quaker issues. Abstract Rufus Matthew Jones (1863-1948) was a Quaker historian, mystic, and philosopher. Born in South China, Maine, to Edwin and Mary Gifford Hoxie Jones, he taught philosophy at Haverford College between 1893 and 1934, and was involved in the Haverford Emergency Unit, American Friends Service, and Fellowship of Reconciliation, and is often attributed as having helped to unite Yearly Meetings in the United States.
