Friends Historical Library account book collection
Account books are ledgers in which commercial and personal financial accounts are recorded. This collection consists of individual account books that were given to the Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College as single accessions.

This collection is comprised of a single volume anonymous account book, which is "an account of mony advanced for the Poor of the City of Philadelphia." Entries include amounts donated by various individuals in the Philadelphia area.

Israel Howell Birdsall account book
Entries in the account book of Israel Howell Birdsall record amounts paid or owed, goods purchased, and currency used. Majority of entries include the purchase and sale of: oil, oil meal (used as food for livestock), flax seed, plaster, beans, apples, and butter. The volume includes an index, in which individuals are organized alphabetically.
