The first notebook contains a collection of letters from June 1853, addressed to his daughter, Elizabeth T. Troth, of Samuel Troth's travels. The second notebook contains various letters from Samuel Troth to friends and family about various events between 1852 and 1861.

Vail Family Letter
This collection contains a letter sent to Miriam Loughborough Vail by Martha C. Parker (her mother) and Anna Maria Vail (her younger sister) in 1846. The letter was recieved by Miriam Loughborough Vail when she was a student at Westtown School. The letter describes her mother's hopes that living at Westtown School is satisfactory. Her sister elaborates in the letter by sending her support and love to Miriam.
Hugh D. Vail letters to Charles Yarnall
The collection contains three handwritten letters by Vail to Yarnall written in 1854. Vail discusses his role in Haverford's Mathematics Department as well as plans for the Haverford College observatory.
