Abstract

Mary Pennington's autobiographical manuscript includes descriptions of her early life, the events leading up to her convincement (conversion to Quakerism), her attendance at Quaker meetings, a description of her marriage and her husband (Isaac Pennington), a description of her husband's family (particularly his mother), a description of a battle at London between "Parliment and the King" at Houndslow-heath, and a description of the English Civil War and upheaval it caused.

In addition to correspondence, the volume includes various other materials, including clippings, illustrations, and signatures of 19th century figures, including Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Many of the letters are addressed to various members of the press, including Arthur H. Thomas, Richard T. Cadbury, Rayner W. Kelsey, and Arthur N. Leeds. Pasted into the front cover of the volume is a pamphlet entitled "At the Forks of the Delaware, 1794-1811," published by the Pennsylvania History Press.
