San Jose Monthly and Preparative Meeting minutes

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of two volumes of minutes, one of which contains minutes from San Jose Monthly and Preparative Meetings, and one which contains minutes from San Jose Monthly Meeting. The latter also contains a brief description of the beginnings of worship in San Jose. The minutes contain business notes, as well as committee reports, responses to annual state of the meeting queries, membership decisions, and financial reports.

Edward Savery manuscript

This history of Middletown Friends Meeting spans from 1686 to 1986, and begins by describing how early Friends in Chester County met in family homes, and the history of building the meeting house in 1699. The history describes the Middletown Meeting's reactions to various historical issues, including European American treatment of Native Americans and slavery and abolition. At the back of the volume is a Middletown Monthly Meeting Membership List from February, 1986.

William Savery diaries

William Savery's diaries. The majority of the first volume concerns the Treaty at Canandaigua, and the remaining volumes are accounts of religious visits Savery made throughout Europe. Entries generally describe details of travel between destinations, Quaker meetings attended, Quaker families visited, and descriptions of each location's culture, food, language, style of dress, and form of local government.
