Seiju Hirakawa commonplace books
The commonplace book of Seiju Hirakawa inlcudes extracts of poetry and religious reflection on the occasion of the Hirakawa’s 50th wedding anniversary. Excerpts and quotations are arranged by topic, and cover topics such as friendship, teachers and pupils, self-expression, books, and pride. The volume also includes a personal reflection marriage, presumably written by Hirakawa.
"The Friends Mission in Japan 1885-1947"
This collection is comprised of the single volume of Tetsuko Kawahara's master's thesis, entitled "The Friends Mission in Japan: 1885-1947." The thesis was for the Graduate School of International Affairs at the University of Tsukuba. The manuscript features chapters on: Quakerism and Foreign Mission, the Friends Mission in Japan: the beginning 1885-1900, Social Orientation of Quakerism in a Changing World, and the Friends Mission in Japan: the Transformation 1900-1947.

Elizabeth Gray Vining (1902-1999) was an author of children’s books and served as the tutor to the crown prince of Japan, Akihito, from 1946 to 1950. The collection consists of correspondence, materials regarding books authored by Vining, articles, lectures and addresses, photographs, and information documenting her and her family's lives.

Included are photographs of the Friends' Girls' school, teacher's residences, teachers and students, views of Tokyo, classes of Sunday school children, and classes of calisthenics, flower arrangement, Koto (traditional Japanese instrument). One photograph of white missionaries is labeled with the folowing names: G. Bowles, A.G. Lewis, I.E. Taber, William T. Ellis, and S. Ellis.
