Abstract The Friends' Boarding Home of Concord Quarterly Meeting, a Quaker boarding home for the elderly in West Chester, PA, was established in 1891. It was originally for women only, but by 1894, men were also admitted. In 1936, the Home moved to a new facility which was constructed with funds provided by a bequest from Nathaniel Hickman. The Palmer family was a Hicksite Quaker family who settled in Bucks County, PA, but who were also active in Delaware County, especially as several family members attended Swarthmore College. Dating from the 1880s to the 1890s, this collections consists of cabinet cards and cartes de visite that depict members of the Palmer family as well as family relatives or friends.

Abstract

This collection contains a letter sent to Miriam Loughborough Vail by Martha C. Parker (her mother) and Anna Maria Vail (her younger sister) in 1846. The letter was recieved by Miriam Loughborough Vail when she was a student at Westtown School. The letter describes her mother's hopes that living at Westtown School is satisfactory. Her sister elaborates in the letter by sending her support and love to Miriam.
