Richard Mott Correspondence

Overview

This collection contains a letter written by Richard Carpenter that was sent to Richard Mott in September of 1849. In the letter, Carpenter expresses the sadness of not having Motts company in his previous Scarsdale Friends monthly meeting in New York. He then describes his experience of the gathering to Mott, who resides in Burlington, New Jersey.

Overview The collection is composed largely of property and legal papers which descended in the Quaker Newbold and Fox families of Burlington County, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Newbolds were among the earliest settlers and prominent landowners in West Jersey. The Fox family of Philadelphia was descended from Justinian Fox who emigrated to America in 1685.
