This collection is composed of seven volumes of the handwritten diaries of Elizabeth Reeve Evans. Diary entries describe social calls, the health of family and friends, the weather, births, deaths, and marriages within the Quaker community, and Quaker meetings.

Biographical note

Elizabeth Reeve Evans (1830-1906) was born on July 4th, 1830, in Philadelphia, PA to William and Elizabeth Evans, both Quakers. Elizabeth never married, and lived with her sister, Hannah Evans, until her death in 1906 at the age of 76.

Acquistion

The Elizabeth Reeve Evans diaries were donated to Special Collections, Haverford College, in 1952 by Susanna Smedley.
