Biographical / Historical

Henry Troth Coates was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 29, 1843, the son of George Morrison Coates and Anna Troth. He entered Haverford College in 1858 and graduated in 1862. During his time at Haverford he was the editor of The Bud and The Collegian. He was the vice-president of the albumni association in 1881, a member of Phi Beta Kappa (1898), the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, the University Archaeological Association of Philadelphia, and the treasuere of the Zoological society. He was also the editor of poetry books and a publisher and booksekker. He married Estelle Barton Lloyd in 1874. He died on Janurary 22, 1910.
