Rolla Foley Papers
Scope and Contents
This collection contains photographs, letters, documents, and pamphlets regarding Rolla Foley's musical career in the Near East between 1939-1945. He had various roles throughout music performances and festivals, most often compiling and editting the music, but also conducting on occasion. These festivals include the 1941 Palestine Children's Music Festival, the 1943 Children's Music Festival, the 1943 Syrian Students' Music Festival, the 1944-1945 Near East Music Festival, and the 1945 Folk Music Festival that took place in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and the former Tranjordan. This collection also contains 1979 letters regarding Foley's career and works during his lifetime.

Biographical Note
Rolla Foley was born on January 14th, 1915 in Oakland, Illinois. He was an American Quaker known for his contributions to music in the Near East from 1939-1945. Foley recieved their B.A. from Eastern Illinois University, M.A. from UCLA, and Ph.D. from Columbia University. Foley passed away in March of 1970 at age 55. Mildred E. White was born in February of 1894 in Michigan. She lived in Richmond, Indiana in 1979. White passed away on March 27th, 1988 at age 94. James H. Laster was born in April of 1934. He was the Chairman of the Voice, Choral, Music Theatre Division at Shennandoah College and Conservatory of Music during 1979. Anna Ozella Langston was born on May 2nd, 1913 in Dudley, Henry, Indiana. She passed away on June 14th, 1998 at age 85. Harold V. Smuck was born on October 12th, 1920 in Huntington, Indiana. He was the Associate Secretary of Wider Ministries at the Friends United Meeting in Richmond, Indiana during 1979. Smuck passed away on August 23rd, 1995 at age 75. Eva W. Meyer was a member of the Quaker and Special Collections team during 1979. Fouad Zarou was principal of the Friends School in Ramallah during 1979.
