Mary Cadbury files related to Eastern Meeting status, 1998 - 1999

 File — Box: 1
Identifier: RG2/NY/E340 1.3-1.4

Scope and Contents

Mary Foster Cadbury, Clerk of Nine Partners Quarterly Meeting Prisons Committee, helped discern a way forward for the Quarterly Meeting (where some members bridled at what they saw as a misuse of the defined term "preparative") and Eastern (whose attenders, as men inside, felt strongly called to the term "preparative"). Files include a memo of her thoughts following a Quarterly meting, a report to the Quarter about Eastern and prison worship groups more broadly, and a letter received from a Quarter member.

The second folder is Cadbury's copies of a tense correspondence between the outside coordinator for Eastern Meeting and a member of Nine Partners Quarterly Meeting, strongly disagreeing about whether or not Eastern Meeting should be required to use "Prison" in its name.
