Financial ephemera (1 of 2), 1816
Scope and Contents
This file contains bills, receipts, and other financial ephemera belonging to Samuel B. Morris. The documents relate to both the purchase and sales of trade goods as well personal purchases and services. Documents related to Morris's mercantile trade include invoices for large purchases (such as 96 boxes of Castile soap) and bills for measuring goods on board ships, storage of goods, wharfage, freight, and advertising. There are extensive accounts for cooperage, presumably for the crafting of containers for shipping goods. There are also several bills for personal purchases and services, such as Isaac T. Hopper's invoice for the purchase of nankeen and repairing a coat. Finally, the file includes legal bills from Peter Lohra for protesting drafts, taking affadavits, and assigning power of attorney on Morris's behalf.
