Haverford College financial ledger, 1884-1897

 Item — Volume: 121

Scope and Contents

This ledger employs double-entry accounting with debits and credits appearing on the same page in two columns. There is an index at the front of the volume that is organized alphabetically by subject matter, including funds, board and tuition, stationery, and vaious one-time and recurring expenses. Most accounts occupy several consecutive pages in the volume. A number of the funds in the volume appear to be endowments which were invested in mortgages and bonds under the management and custody of the Provident Life and Trust Company. There are several documents laid between pages at the back of the volume that relate to securities in the Jacob P. Jones Endowment Fund, Board-authorized loans, Board directives to the Treasurer, and minutes from an informal meeting of the Board regarding a campaign to raise money for scholarships.

The companion to this volume is Index of Haverford College financial ledger, 1884-1897 (Volume 122).
