Transcriptions of spoken messages in worship meetings, 2018 - 2019
Scope and Contents
In 2018, a Poughkeepsie Meeting member felt called to write down and distribute transcriptions of spoken messages delivered during Meeting for Worship, to aid Deaf and hard of hearing attenders as well as those who weren't always able to attend Meeting or remember what was said at Meeting. Poughkeepsie's Ministry & Counsel Committee responded by requiring Meeting attenders to be notified and asked about transcriptions, but did not feel a sense to end the practice until 2019. As it is rare to have records of spoken messages in unprogrammed Quaker worship, these transcriptions have been retained but restricted for fifty years.
