Poughkeepsie Monthly Meeting Records
Scope and Contents
Records of Poughkeepsie Monthly Meeting and its predecessors, Oswego Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) and Oswego Monthly Meeting (pre-Separation), 1799-ongoing. Includes Minutes (mens and joint), 1799-1888 and 1888-1977/1980-2019 (2013-2019 minutes are digital); and women's minutes, 1828-1900.
Vital records cover births and deaths 1828-1975, marriages and removals 1828-1975, and memorial minutes from the 1950s through 2010s. Several histories of the meeting, compiled primarily in the 1980s, are present. There is a largely complete run of the newsletter from 1952-1995 and a fairly comprehensive run of the Meeting's sent and received (non-routine) correspondence, plus a near complete run of State of the Meeting reports from 1940-2009. Of additional interest is two folders related to draft counseling and Selective Service non-registration from the 1960s-1980s.
A significant component of the collection is records related to Poughkeepsie's Ministry and Counsel Committee (and its predecessor groups) including minutes 1850s-1990s, occasional surveys of membership around questions of spiritual life (1930s-2000s), and records around their pastoral programming from the 1950s-1990s. Additional committee minutes include the Pastoral Committee and various women's groups, plus annual committee reports from the 1940s-1980s.
