Samuel B. Morris guardianship of Feinour children, 1835-1838
Scope and Contents
This file contains letters and financial documents pertaining to Samuel B. Morris's guardianship of the children of George Feinour. It consists primarily of correspondence relating to the partition and management of the Feinour estate and the education of Alice Feinour. After receiving information from Mary Watson about her daughter's school in Hartford, Connecticut, Alice Feinour began attending Elizabeth Watson's school around 1835. The correspondence between Elizabeth Watson and Morris contains information on the progress of Alice's studies. In a July 19, 1837, letter, Watson notes that "We shall feel more satisfaction in parting with her & more confidence from her future application, from having some reason to think that her views of life have of late changed, and that she acts mostly from conscientious motives."
