A Look at Haverford's Past, 1958-1959

 File — Box: 1

Scope and Contents

This folder includes seven copies of a lecture given by Dean Lockwood titled, "A Look At Haverford's Past," along with several documents detailing when and where the lectures were given. Alongside the lecture notes are annotations which specify which photos are to be displayed during which points in the talk. The lecture was given three times: the first during an alumni meeting in the fieldhouse on October 25, 1958, the second at "collection" on December 9, 1958, and the third for the Triangle Club dinner at the Union League of Philadelphia on January 17, 1959. The lecture gives a broad history of Haverford College up to that point, including it's founding, early financial issues, and notable faculty/administrative accomplishments. Though the speeches focus on the same area with similar language, minor edits are made from one version to the next, until the final. Materials are undated, however, their approximate date can be inferrred based on when a certain speech was given.
