A lady’s fan that dates to the 18th century. Embroidered with sequins. Previously kept in a small box on which was written “Aunt Mary’s?”
Margaret Hill Morris’ belt-chatelaine, 1754
A belt-chatelaine that belonged to Margaret Hill Morris, the wife of William Morris and the daughter of Dr. Richard Hill of Maryland and Madeira. Made in 1754 from “guinea gold” from the African gold coast, it has been impressed with ornate scenes depicting cherubs. One carved wooden ornament and one painted porcelain ornament hang from the belt-chateleine; the bottom halves of these hollow ornaments are no longer secured to the top halves. Used for holding keys, a purse, or a watch.
