Scope and Contents
This payroll book includes the names and wages of laborers and "domestics" employed by Haverford School (later Haverford College) from March 1851 to December 1869. In most cases, male manual laborers and female domestics are listed separately. It appears that most people were paid monthly although their labor fetched a standard weekly rate. Employees signed the book when they received their monthly wages in full with many signing with their mark instead of their signature.
