Scope and Contents

The Lydia Sharpless Perry scrapbook contains the one volume scrapbook of Lydia Sharpless, Bryn Mawr College class of 1908. The scrapbook contains material from 1903 to 1910 and contains the usual Bryn Mawr memorabilia, with an emphasis on hockey memorabilia.

The scrapbook consists of one volume. There are a few personal pieces in the scrapbook, mostly programs, photographs, and examinations. There are also many good quality photographs of class plays and May Day. Much of the material relates to hockey, and the scrapbook includes many photographs and scores from various seasons. Sharpless was also on the basketball and track teams, so there are also materials related to these activities. Noteworthy items in the scrapbook include: a handwritten hockey schedule, 1904; BMC class play programs 1904-1907; BMC college exams, 1904-1908; and photographs of basketball game, 1908.

This scrapbook stands as a testament to the vigorous physical education many Bryn Mawr students received in addition to their academic education. It would be of interest to those studying general Bryn Mawr history in the early twentieth century, but of special value to those interested in sports and physical education.
