Biographical / Historical
Elizabeth Stuart Phelps Ward (1844-1911), born Mary Gray Phelps, was an American author who used her mother's name, Elizabeth Stuart Phelps, as a pseudonym, both before and after her marriage to Herbert Dickinson Ward. Ward wrote three Spiritualist novels and a novella about animal rights. She was also an advocate of social reform, temperance, and woman suffrage.
