Gidley and Carter family papers
Contains correspondence of Job Scott Gidley, Wilburite minister, of New England Yearly Meeting, (2) notebooks of notes taken by Jessie Gidley Carter during London Yearly Meeting and Friends Service Council in 1938, and miscellaneous Carter property records and family papers.
Bernard Barton Correspondence
The collection contains primarily the corrrespondence of Bernard Barton, English Quaker poet and bank clerk. Most of the letters are to William S. Fitch, a chemist and druggist, and other correspondents include R. Ackerman and Edward Moxon. Many of the letters concern Barton's poetry. Also included are few poems and other papers. All items in the collection were written by Bernard Barton; most were written from the location of Woodbridge (Suffolk, England).
Samuel L. Southard Papers concerning the Quaker Separation
This collection contains the correspondence and legal papers of Samuel L. Southard, New Jersey lawyer and politician, concerning his defense of the Hicksite position in the trial over the Crosswicks School Fund at the time of the Separation in the Society of Friends. The School Fund of Crosswick Preparative Meeting, New Jersey, was claimed by both factions, Hicksite and Orthodox.
George H. Burr Collected Papers on the Quaker Separation
The Burr Collection includes manuscripts which document the Hicksite position during the Separation of 1827/28 in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and the trial over the Crosswicks School Fund. It is directly related to the Southard Papers/RG5/312, which contain a more complete description of the controversy. It also includes Burr's manuscript on the History of the Society of Friends which he compiled for Southard as background in preparing his case representing the Hicksite position.
