The first standing committees of the Faculty were listed in the Catalogue of 1881: Library, Students' Societies, Catalogue, and Diplomas and Commencement. As of 2015 there are dozens of ad-hoc and standing committees on which faculty and staff serve.

From an initial set of four standing committees of the faculty in 1881, the set of standing and ad-hoc committees of the faculty and staff at Swarthmore College has grown to include dozens of committees.
