Lower Mansfield Preparative Meeting Records

A seasonal meeting for worship at William Fowell's was established by Burlington Monthly Meeting in 1753. It was often referred to as "Mansfield Neck Meeting." A meeting for worship and preparative meeting were established in 1783. The Orthodox branch of this meeting was discontinued in 1828; its members were transferred to Burlington Preparative Meeting (Orthodox). The meeting for worship was discontinued in 1831; its members were transferred to Burlington Meeting or Old Springfield Meeting. In 1830, Burlington [Rancocas] Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) reported that no meetings had been held at Lower Mansfield "for a considerable time past" but a meeting for worship and preparative meeting were reestablished there in 1831. In 1844, Lower Mansfield Preparative Meeting was discontinued by Burlington Quarterly Meeting, and its members were transferred to Old Springfield Preparative Meeting. By 1850, it was reported that no members were worshipping at Lower Mansfield although the meeting house was used occasionally for silent worship by some of the local inhabitants; Burlington Monthly Meeting then dropped responsibility for the meeting.
