Biographical / Historical

A meeting for worship was organized at Cape May before 1726 under Salem Monthly Meeting or Haddonfield Monthly Meeting. A preparative meeting was established by 1726. In 1726, the meetings became part of a monthly meeting for Great Egg Harbor and Cape May. The meeting at Cape May was transferred to Maurice River Monthly Meeting in 1804.

In 1817, the monthly meeting was held entirely at Maurice River. Cape May Preparative Meeting was discontinued in 1818.

An indulged Meeting at Cape May during the summer months was established by Greenwich Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) in 1882; in 1886, Salem Quarterly Meeting transferred the oversight of this meeting to Salem Monthly Meeting. It was discontinued at some point thereafter. In 1931, the seasonal meeting at Cape May was reestablished under the care of Salem Quarterly Meeting.

In 1957, the meeting for worship at Cape May became part of Seaville Monthly Meeting.
