Scope and Contents

Pre-Separation and Hicksite meeting records include: minutes of the men's meeting, 1828-1884; and minutes of the women's meeting, 1801-1884. Also included are two account books of the women's meeting, 1830-1868 and 1868-1884. Orthodox and United meeting records include: burials, 1816-1940; minutes of the men's meeting, 1762-1970; minutes of the women’s meeting, 1828-1908; account books, 1838-1970; school trustees minutes and accounts, 1795-1970; miscellaneous papers, 1943-1960, n.d.; deeds and other property records, 1903-1970; papers relating to the Hicksite Separation, [1828-1829].

Biographical / Historical

Evesham Preparative Meeting was established in 1740. In 1760, it became part of Evesham Monthly Meeting. In 1827, after the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. Evesham Preparative Meeting (Hicksite) was discontinued in 1884, and its members were transferred to Chester Monthly Meeting (New Jersey) and Medford Monthly Meeting (Hicksite).

The Orthodox Preparative Meeting was transferred to Moorestown Monthly Meeting in 1956; it was discontinued in 1970.
