Biographical / Historical

A meeting for worship at Hockessin was established in 1737 by Newark (Kennett) Monthly Meeting. In 1786, Western Quarterly Meeting established Hockessin Preparative Meeting out of a division of Center Preparative Meeting.

Hockessin Preparative Meeting (Orthodox) absorbed Center Preparative Meeting in 1827; the preparative meeting was transferred to Kennett Monthly Meeting in 1831. In 1856, the meeting for worship and preparative meeting were discontinued. Their members were transferred to Kennett Preparative Meeting.

Hockessin Preparative Meeting (Hicksite) was discontinued in 1914.
