Hannah Wilson papers
Scope and Contents
Primarily manuscript letters addressed to Hannah Wilson of Plymouth Meeting, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, a member of Gwynedd Monthly Meeting. Most of the correspondents were family and friends of the Wilson, Schofield, and Williams families. The letters contain family news with reference to social and political concerns including slavery and abolition. The letters were transcribed and published with annotations. The collection also contains photographs of the Mills family (Hannah's sister-in-law's family}, a commonplace book of Jane Maris, and some related papers.

Biographical / Historical
Hannah Fell Wilson (1828-1905) was a birthright member of Gwynedd Monthly Meeting. Her parents were George Maris Wilson and Sarah Fell Schofield, both with deep roots in Pennsylvania Quaker families. Hannah married Guy Roberts in 1859, and they moved to Philadelphia. She had two surviving siblings, Martha Ann who married twice, and Oliver S. Wilson who married Elizabeth Mills, a non-member.
Hannah's mother was the daughter of Benjamin Schofield and Martha Fell Schofield and sister of Oliver W. Schofield. Oliver W. Schofield married Mary Hough Jackson of Darby, Pennsylvania. Their children were twins Lydia Ann and Sarah J., Benjamin, Martha F., and Eliza H. Schofield. The Jacksons and Schofields wre involved in abolition, education, and other reform concerns. Hannah's first cousin, Martha Fell Schofield, founded the Schofield Normal and Industrial School in Aiken, S. C., in 1868.

Processing Information
Order of letters retained as received. Photographs were removed from deteriorated albums and stored in mylar.
