Janney family correspondence
Abstract
This collection primarily includes correspondence of Mahlon and Sarah Janney. These letters relate mainly to family and local news of Loudon Co., Virginia. One letter, written by Thomas Scattergood and Josiah Bunting, provides a brief account of their travels as Quaker ministers. Also included are unsigned fragments, one of which provides an account of a visit to Virginia Yearly Meeting, and another of which concludes a poem addressed to Richard Mott. Also included are notes from the collector, Elizabeth J. Baldwin, on her family history.

Biographical / Historical
Sarah Janney was a Quaker. Born in 1734 in Frederick County, Md., she was the daughter of Samuel and Sarah Plummer. She married Mahlon Janney in 1760 and was a minister at Fairfax Monthly Meeting of Friends.
