Abstract

The manuscript entitled, "Sermons by Eli and Sybil Jones," recounts a sermon given by Eli Jones, and a second sermon given by Sybil Jones (beginning on page 22) at Devonshire House, on February 17, 1869. Eli Jones's sermon focuses on 2 Thessalonians 3:1, and Sybil Jones's sermon focuses on Isaiah 21:11.

Scope and Content note This collection is comprised of a single volume manuscript notebook, with notes related to a disturbance at the Mulberry Street House, when George and Ann Jones held an evening meeting, in 1826. According to the first entry, at a meeting of the Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia, a committee was created for “ascertaining the facts, and enquiring into the cause of the disturbance which occurred in the vicinity of our meeting house a few weeks since.” The notebook records the meetings...

Mary Hoxie Jones papers

Abstract

This collection is comprised of the typed scripts of a play written by Mary Hoxie Jones, entitled "The King's Missive," as well as two copies of the program of the Annual Business Meeting and Entertainment of Friends Historical Association, and a reproduced letter with a wax seal addressed to "Carles R." and signed by "William Morris," and was presumably used as a prop in a production of "The King's Missive."

Rebecca Jones commonplace book

Abstract

The commonplace book of Rebecca Jones includes extracts from H.F.'s manuscript, Samuel Fothergill's remarks upon Cornelius Cayley's application to Friends of Leed's Meeting, the manuscript found among the papers of Thomas Wilson, a sermon preached by Luke Cock at York, the Vision of William Bayley, and the Quaker testimonies of Samuel Fothergill and Rachel Wilson. The volume also includes copied letters to Friends of the Women's Meeting in Dublin, and a letter to Catherine Payton.

Rebecca Jones letterbook

Rebecca Jones's letterbook includes her personal correspondence with Leonard Snowdon. Letters describe meetings Jones attended, discussions of the abolition of slavery, and news of friends and family. Included in the volume is a brief account of Jones's convincement.
