Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of five volumes of the signature albums of Irvin C. Poley. The volumes include autographs of famous people, particularly authors, actors, and those in government or diplomacy, primarily sent to Poley, though there are other recipients as well. Many of the instances are signatures. Some of the more well-known authors who wrote letters, rather than just signatures, often relate to speaking at an event or a fund solicitation or response to comment or request for signature from Poley.

Biographical Note

Irvin C. Poley (1892-1974) was a Quaker and member of Germantown Monthly Meeting. He was the principal and vice-principal of Germantown Friends School and taught English there for 45 years. Poley was the co-author of two literary anthologies, author of the Poley Precis Tests, and author of many articles.
